LVCI calls it quits
It’s a sad day for the Lehigh Valley blogosphere. Lehigh Valley Clancularius Introspectives, an always intelligent, eclectic gem of the local blog world, has decided to throw in the towel. A small readership is one reason cited, but the main issue, says LVCI, is harassment and intimidation from the bloggers behind Lehigh Valley Somebody. The Villas suffered an unspeakable loss, one that I cannot even imagine. Anyone human recognizes this. Beyond that, I refuse to comment on the Villas’ dispute with others, just because I simply don’t know enough. But I will say that I find the Villas’ tactics counterproductive and illiberal: implied threats, personal attacks, and calls to boycott various blogs. My view is that more speech is almost always better speech, and no matter what the underlying issues are, I simply cannot agree with their tactics. LVCI cites the implied threats in the comments thread to LV Somebody’s most recent post, which are indeed troubling.
Update: You can see the Villas’ response in the original comments thread and in a new post (and its comments too). My own response is also the new post’s comments thread (in two parts). Though it’s not my normal practice for short posts like this, I have also enabled (moderated) comments.
